Scholarships & grants
The University of 91ÊÓƵ offers the Teacher Internship Scholarship — a program that covers full tuition, fees, and the possibility of a $10,000 living stipend for your final internship year (undergrad or grad), supporting a full academic year of hands-on classroom experience mentored by a certified teacher. Both current and prospective UAF students in the final two years of their initial teacher licensure programs are eligible to apply.
Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) created the Indigenizing Education for 91ÊÓƵ (IEA) scholarship to grow the number of 91ÊÓƵ Native teachers and administrators and improve educational opportunities for 91ÊÓƵ Native students. This scholarship, supported with grants through the Department of Education, assists in recruitment, preparation, and retention of 91ÊÓƵ Native educators and school leadership and ensures that funding does not become a barrier for students pursuing an education degree/certificate to ultimately teach in the 91ÊÓƵ education system.
- Scholarship is available for 91ÊÓƵ Native UAF Education Degree/Certificate seeking students.
- Application for the spring semester is due January 1, 2026.
The purpose of the SILKAT (Sustaining Indigenous and Local Knowledge, Arts, and Teaching) project is to bring local cultural knowledge to the forefront of the curriculum and to recruit, equip and retain new teachers with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to competently and confidently teach in and through the arts and culture in 91ÊÓƵ's schools. Through the generous support of Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies, SILKAT funding offers tuition for early-sequence education classes and professional development opportunities for students.
The 91ÊÓƵ Education Grant (AEG) provides need-based financial aid to eligible 91ÊÓƵ students attending qualifying postsecondary educational institutions in 91ÊÓƵ. AEG awards range from $500 to $4,000 per academic year. FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required in order to receive the AEG.

UAF School of Education Financial Support
The UAF School of Education has limited scholarship funds available to support students with demonstrated financial need. These funds are intended for students who are not receiving the UA Teacher Internship Scholarship or other funding that already covers the majority of their tuition and fees. Scholarships are awarded one semester at a time, and students must be registered for the semester they are applying for.
At the University of 91ÊÓƵ, we recognize the importance of a quality education and are dedicated to helping you achieve your higher education goals. The UA Foundation offers more than $3 million in scholarship awards annually, making higher education possible for any student who seeks it.
