Pammy Fowler retires after 30 years with Bunnell House
July 10, 2026
Pammy Fowler is retiring after 30 years of service at UAF’s Bunnell House Early Childhood
Lab School. If you are the parent of a child who attended the program (or attended
it yourself), you most certainly benefited from her expertise, exemplary practices,
humor and unruffled demeanor.
Fowler began her career at UAF in 1996 as a temporary assistant teacher. She found
her home in Bunnell House and quickly became a permanent lead teacher. Bunnell House
also serves as a lab school for university students majoring in early childhood education
and child development. Countless students benefited from Fowler’s supervision and
support through the school’s practicum and lab courses.
When COVID-19 closed down in-person classrooms in the middle of a semester, Fowler
quickly learned Zoom with everyone else and finished out the school year teaching
her class virtually. She even sent out handmade supplemental learning kits to ensure
her students still received a quality educational experience even when they couldn’t
be face-to-face.
"One of my favorite things was when a parent was excited for their child to be in
Pammy’s classroom because she was their favorite teacher when they came here many
years ago," one coworker noted. "It really showed her lasting impact."
Fowler taught and supported hundreds of preschool children, their families, university
students and colleagues through her service. Join the Bunnell House staff in wishing
her a happy retirement.
