Call for applications: UAF Master Planning Committee

The Office of the Chancellor is currently seeking applications for several positions on the University of 91ÊÓƵ Fairbanks Master Planning Committee. Members of the committee are expected to consider the needs of the entire university mission while representing the specific experiences of their respective units or regions. Student members serve for a single year, while employee and community members serve for three years.

Friday Focus: Summer updates for Outdoor Adventures, Nanook Recreation

Persevering through the coldest winter on record proved interesting for us all; Nanook Recreation, including the SRC and Outdoor Adventures, was able to run a myriad of programs for the UAF community and greater Fairbanks population. While incredibly content with the energy and stoke sustained throughout the winter months, we are gearing up for the warmth and extended sunlight that affords us all ample opportunities to venture outdoors and absorb some much-needed vitamin D.

CEM Makerspace supports research

Led by UAF Makerspace Manager Tate Barhaug, the UAF CEM Makerspace helped Geophysical Institute Ph.D. student Amy Jenson develop custom instrument stands for glacier research on the Greenland Ice Sheet. The field systems support GPS, weather monitoring and ice-melt measurements in extreme Arctic conditions, highlighting how the Makerspace helps turn research ideas into working solutions for real-world science.

This week, the Fairbanks thaw has been outpaced by something much more infectious, a case of "commencement fever." It's like spring fever, but with the volume turned all the way up. You can feel the campus temperature rising. Not just from the returning sun but from that unmistakable hum of frantic final prep, the collective exhale of hard-earned relief and the kind of pure joy that only graduation weekend can spark. In the 20-plus years I've spent walking these halls as both a student and staff member, this seasonal "fever" remains my absolute favorite time of year.
