Limited submission opportunity: Murdock Scientific Research Instrumentation

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research is soliciting white papers for the call for proposals.
Anticipated Funding Amount: There is no strict limit on the funding amount. Match is required (see below).
Limit on Number of Proposals per Organization: One per window (UAF has two eligibility windows per year)
Letters of Intent: Required
The Murdock Foundation supports cutting-edge scientific research from scientific biomedical research institutions or major universities. Funding is intended to support scientific research in the form of major scientific instrumentation. Institutions are expected to provide a cost-share of at least 50 percent of the total equipment cost.
Your white paper should include:
- A title page () that includes the anticipated date of application submission
- A project description that states clearly the central theme and objectives of the project, the plan you are proposing to address them, and the scientific significance of the project. Use language comprehensible to the intelligent non-scientist. For equipment requests, include the number of users. Note: the Trust strongly encourages proposals that cross departmental and/or MAU boundaries.
- A budget summary that includes the total cost, the amount requested, a description of how the Trust funds will be used, including the cost share

Dec. 8, 2025, 5 p.m. AKST: White paper submission for UAF-wide competition. White papers must be received by 5 p.m. on or before the internal submission deadline. White papers should be submitted through the .
Dec. 18, 2025: Based on recommendations from the internal review, the VCR will notify the selected PIs.
April 30, 2026, 5 p.m. AKST: LOI is due M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust.
Aug. 1, 2026, 5 p.m. AKST: LOI decisions will be received by May 31. If selected to move ahead by Murdock, the Full Proposal is due to the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust between June 1 and August 1.
