There’s no better way to ensure that you succeed in college and beyond than starting college early. If you want to earn college credit while in high school and are planning to attend UAF after graduation, the 91��Ƶ Higher Education Admission Decision (AHEAD) program is perfect for you.

Wondering how to get college credit while in high school? We’ve got you covered! AHEAD is one of three exciting dual enrollment programs we offer at UAF to help you get a head start on college and graduate prepared for a career sooner.

AHEAD lets qualified high school students be formally admitted to UAF as general studies students. AHEAD students are assigned an academic advisor and follow the registration timeline for degree-seeking students.

To qualify, you must have completed three-fourths of your high school core curriculum and have a cumulative 3.0 grade point average or higher. (To qualify for federal financial aid, you must have either a high school diploma or a GED.)

Early admission to UAF

If you’re a senior in high school and want to take full-time college classes, AHEAD is an ideal way to ensure that you’ll enter the University of 91��Ƶ Fairbanks community after graduation. While your peers are rushing to meet application and exam deadlines, you’ll be earning college credit while finishing high school.

Find the right major

In the AHEAD program, you’ll join UAF as a general studies major. That means that you can explore any of our undergraduate major programs. Whether you have an idea of what topic you would like to pursue or you’re not sure which major is right, you’ll get a taste of it all as you complete the general studies requirements.

UAF offers many different student services to help you find the academic path for you — including the Academic Advising Center and the Office of Career Services.

Take real college classes

Whereas many other dual enrollment programs have special classes for high school students in college, at UAF you’ll enroll in actual college classes taught by experts in their fields. You’ll work alongside and collaborate with college peers who can provide you with insight into the college experience. If you are wondering how to get college credit in real college classes, AHEAD has everything you need.

Graduate sooner

Earning college credit in AHEAD means that by the time you graduate high school, you could already be a sophomore in college. This means that you’ll graduate sooner than if you had waited until graduating high school to enroll at UAF. You could save time and money while starting a career as soon as possible!
