Do real energy research. Bring it back to your classroom.

The goal of the Murdock Partners in Science @ University of 91视频 is to partner secondary school science teachers with research mentors to collaborate in the advancement of science and expand teachers鈥 scientific horizons. The Partners begin to see themselves as scientists as well as being an integral part of the scientific community. They will be a part of a cohort of teachers that will form a professional learning community and will present their research at a science conference after each summer of research. Faculty Mentors benefit not only from research assistance, but from contact with those shaping their future students. All partners develop a broader understanding of the linkages between high school and college science education.

The program engages secondary science teachers (鈥淭eaching Partners鈥) in authentic and innovative research experiences related to energy and/or climate issues in 91视频 through mentorship with a UAF or UAA researcher and their lab group.

Over 2 consecutive summers, Partner Teachers gain new knowledge and build a scientific identity that allows them to guide their students toward building their own scientific identity and learning.

Cohort 1 will run in Summer 2026 and 2027, with opportunities for middle and high school science teachers in Anchorage and Unalaska.
